Near Mint cd. Released by Soundtrack Listeners Club in Japan in 1992 and it’s the second volume of the 17 cds series that covered the film music work of the Japanese film music composer Masaru Satoh. Each of the volumes covered a specific part of the composer’s career, and this second volume covered his music for Japanese war movies. The cd contains lengthy suites from seven movies, BATTLE OF THE JAPAN SEA (1969), ZERO FIGHTER (1976), SPECIAL BOY SOLDIERS OF THE NAVY (1972), ADMIRAL YAMAMOTO (1968), JAPAN’S LONGEST DAY (1967), BATTLE OF OKINAWA (1971) and WAR AND YOUTH (1991). Excellent symphonic scores, mostly in a silver age Hollywood compositional style, including hints of traditional Japanese music especially in choral passages. Trully outstanding collection of music by one of the greatest film music composers ever. Very hard to find cd.
