Mint cd. Released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in 1996 in a 24k gold plated cd. This is the best cd edition of Bernard Herrmann’s 1975 recordings with the National Philharmonic orchestra of his three superb scores for the classic fantasy films MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1960), JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963) and GULLIVER’S TRAVELS (1960). All three productions were mastered by the great effects artist Ray Harryhausen and Herrmann’s scores supported in the most unique way the jaw-dropping (at that time) Harryhausen’s special effects. Of the three scores, only JASON has never been released in its original form, while MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and GULLIVER had excellent cd and lp releases by Cloud Nine label. The Mobile Fidelity production has a great sound quality and really highlights Herrmann’s re-recordings. Essential release for every soundtrack collection.
